The Idea

We waste a lot of energy trying to smooth out our complexities so we are easier for the world to digest. "Peonied Beauty" is about rejecting that pressure. It is a visual reminder that depth, mood, and softness can all live in the exact same space without conflict. There is no need to perform or pretend to be one-dimensional. True worth isn't found in a perfectly polished exterior; it is found in the willingness to simply exist in all your layers, completely unfiltered.

The Work

This piece is built on deep contrast and atmospheric textures. The focus centers on a rich, moody burgundy peony surrounded by layered blooms in soft pink, lavender, and warm ochre. The background uses a loose blend of sage greens, creams, and muted blues that lets the edges of the flowers dissolve into raw brushwork. There is no attempt to hide the canvas texture or the physical weight of the paint. On the bottom right edge, a distinct, raw paint drip runs off the canvas—left entirely intentional to show the honest reality of the studio process.
